Steenbok Flower Trail
Turning your face towards the sun like all the daisies blooming in spring is a fantastic way to spend a weekend.
Situated 1.5hrs from Cape Town along the R27 (West Coast Road) you will find the entrance to the SANParks run West Coast National Park. The Park offers multiple options for hikers, cyclists, trail runners and people who just want to have a lekker braai while gazing out over the deep blue waters of Langebaan Lagoon.
If you truly want to experience the magic of this place you need to go in spring and hike amongst the flowers when the Postberg section is open. This area transports you into a fairytale world of colour all around you.
There is a 2-day hike option, (day 1 15.5km, day 2 11.8km) as well as the Steenbok one-day option, (13.5km). The trail is very gentle and a great option for most people with an average fitness level.
Access is limited to 20 people per day, so it is best to book well in advance to get a permit.
To see the flowers in all their glory visit on a sunny day that is not too windy. The flowers tend to close under overcast conditions.
Make sure to take enough water, sun protection and snacks.
