Situated near the Augrabies Falls National Park, the Dassie Trail is an easy hike perfect for the entire family. The canyon-like feel of the landscape is perfect for hikers looking to escape the ordinary and soak up the isolated beauty of the area.
As the name suggests, there are loads of dassies (Afrikaans for Rock Hyrax) to spot on the roite, and it's not uncommon for visitors to spot lizards, eagles and even some mountain zebras. Be sure to pack your camera for some insta-worthy snaps.
Another scenic landmark to keep your eyes peeled for is the Moon Rock granite dome. Make your way to the top for one of the most amazing views of the hike. The granite dome is a large exfoliation dome which measures approximately 700m by 100m and is worth the scramble – just remember to watch your step!
Be sure to pack sunscreen, and UV protective gear as this hike is known to get blistering hot during the summer months.
