About The Event
The Berg River Marathon (BERG) started in 1962 and has been the premier event in the Western Cape for 61 years, with only one cancellation in 2020 during Covid. The Berg has attracted paddlers from around the world, including many world champions. The Berg is a 4-day event, which starts in Paarl on 3 July and ends in Velddrif on 6 July 2024 with a total distance of 240km. Day 1 over a distance of 62km ends at Zonkwasdrif. The 2nd day is 46km and ends at Bridgetown. The 3rd day is 76km and finishes at Zoutkloof. The Marathon ends in Velddrif on day 4 covering a distance of 56km, between 11:30, when the winners arrive and 16:00 when the last paddler finishes his race.
*Berg entries have to be members of a canoe club, have a valid CSA license and must be AR rated.
